Jack and the Beanstalk 2 is a sequel players have waited a long time for. The original Jack and the Beanstalk was released all the way back in December 2011 and became one of NetEnt's signature slots. Its Walking Wild feature was particularly memorable: Wilds moved across the reels during re-spins and multiplied winning combinations by 3x. More than 14 years later, that mechanic is still at the centre of the sequel, although almost everything around it has been expanded.
Jack Has Grown Up
The biggest change is actually the story.
Jack isn't climbing a magic beanstalk anymore. He's grown up and entered the corporate world, working for a boss called Goaty Mc Goatface. Magic beans have become investments, crypto and stocks, and the whole fairy tale has been turned into a joke about office life and chasing financial gains.

Walking Wilds Are Back
The Walking Wild Re-Spins are the clearest connection to the original game.
Wilds can land on reels 2 to 5 and start with a 3x multiplier. They then move one reel to the left with every re-spin until they eventually leave the grid.
This time, however, Wilds can grow into stacks of up to five symbols. New Wilds that appear during the re-spins can arrive at a higher level and with a bigger stack. If several Wilds are involved in the same win, their multipliers are added together.
There are also Mystery Wilds, which can activate randomly before a normal spin. The game chooses a Wild level from 2 to 5 and can add corresponding Wilds to the reels.
Bonus Spins and Golden Beans
The second major part of the game is the Bonus Spins feature.
Collecting three Bonus symbols awards five Bonus Spins. If one of those symbols is a Super Bonus, you instead enter the stronger Super Bonus Spins mode.
Three Golden Bean Coins are placed on the grid when the feature begins, carrying values of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x. From there, several special symbols can change or increase their values.
- Walking Rockets move left across the reels in a similar way to the Walking Wilds. When a Rocket passes over a Golden Bean, it multiplies that Bean's value by 3x.
- Battery Upgrades make the Rockets larger. Reaching 3, 6, 9 and 12 Batteries increases their stack size and also adds an extra Bonus Spin at every level.
- HODL Collector collects the values of all Golden Beans currently on the reels and turns them into one larger Bean.
- Stocks Sharer adds between 1x and 10x to every Golden Bean on the screen.
- Card Spreader can add up to eight extra Golden Beans into empty positions around it.
Super Bonus Spins start in a much stronger position. All Walking Rockets are already five symbols high, and at least one of the three starting Golden Beans is guaranteed to have a 10x value.

Jack and the Beanstalk 2 also uses NetEnt's Elevate feature system.

Our First Impression
Jack and the Beanstalk 2 looks less like a simple sequel and more like NetEnt taking an old game and rebuilding it for today's slot market.
The original ran on a 5x3 grid with 20 paylines and was relatively straightforward by modern standards. The sequel moves to 5x5 and surrounds the familiar Walking Wild idea with stacked Wilds, collecting mechanics, multipliers, upgrades and several different ways to reach the bonus.
That also fits what NetEnt has been doing with some of its older games recently. Dead or Alive 3: Wanted continued another famous series with much more elaborate mechanics, while Fruit Shop Grand Re-Opening kept the identity of the original Fruit Shop but built a larger modern feature set around it. Jack and the Beanstalk 2 seems to follow the same approach.
The good sign is that NetEnt hasn't thrown away the one feature people actually remember from the first game. Walking Wilds are still here. They're simply bigger, more aggressive and surrounded by a lot more going on.
